New content, new access puts games in front of viewers, YouTube data reveals

YouTube Gaming has released its monthly chart of trending games for January 2015; at the top of the list ranks Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, and the rest of the ranking just looks like a list of games you'd already know the names of — no real surprises there.

What is more interesting is YouTube's reasoning behind the popularity of each game on the site.

New releases, DLC packs, and beta tests seem to jump games back up into the rankings.

Take Dying Light, Goat Simulator, and Shovel Knight. Each rode their way into the top 10 on the back of DLC upd…

We did our best to bring you news, interviews and analysis of the most interesting events of the show in our GDC 2015 coverage, but a certain aspect of the experience is lost when you try to convey the tenor of a vibrant event like this through words alone.

Nintendo finally unveils the Switch 2, its successor to the Nintendo Switch

The wait is over. Nintendo has finally pulled back the veil on the Switch 2, its successor to the immensely popular Nintendo Switch. It's currently unclear how much the console will cost, although Nintendo indicated it will hit shelves at some point in 2025.

Developers not privy to Nintendo's plans have been waiting on pins and needles for details of what new hardware features its next console might sport. Since the Nintendo Wii, the company has prioritized unique technology like motion sensor controls, second-screens, and portability over graphical and computing power. This time around? Well, it looks like we'll be getting more of the same–but better.

In a brief announcement video (embedded below), Nintendo showed a device th…

NetEase has brought in veteran Call of Duty design director David Vonderhaar to lead new remote-first studio BulletFarm.

The fledgling studio will be headquartered in Los Angeles and has been tasked with developing a new triple-A franchise.

Vonderhaar spent almost two decades at Treyarch and Activision Blizzard before leaving in August 2023. During his time at the studio, he worked on eight entries in the Call of Duty series and served as a leader within the design team.

Discussing his decision to join NetEase and BulletFarm, Vonderhaar said the project would push him to step outside of his comfort zone and try his hand at making something completely new.

Results from the fifth annual Game Developers Conference State of the Industry Survey are in, revealing trends in the games industry based on the feedback of more than 4,500 game developers ahead of GDC 2017 in February and March.

Earlier this month we pointed out how survey results suggest game developers are optimistic about Nintendo’s upcoming Switch console, but feel unsure about the prospects of mid-cycle console refreshes like the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox’s “Project Scorpio.” Also, the survey shows that for the first time ever, mobile game devs favor Android over iOS.
